Senator Claims Mark Zuckerberg Dared Him to a Cage Match Showdown

Mark Zuckerberg is eager for a confrontation. Markwayne Mullin, a Republican Senator from Oklahoma, disclosed that the Facebook innovator has invited him to engage in sparring sessions several times during a conversation with human cringe generator Benny Johnson on The Benny Show.

“Mark has contacted me, sent me text messages a couple of times. The dude’s gotten really deep into jujitsu, and he wants me to head over there and practice with him,” Mullin shared. “He aspires to train, he legitimately wants to step into the cage and fight. He mentioned, ‘I’d love for you to come down and spar with me sometime.’ I think it’d be awesome to go down there and try that.”

Mullin isn’t unfamiliar with fighting; it’s just that he usually is the one throwing down the gauntlet. He made the news headlines back in 2023 when he dared Sean O’Brien, head of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, to a fight on the Congress floor in response to some critical tweets O’Brien had directed at him. The entire situation descended into a shouting contest filled with lots of posturing and no actual punches, which seems like the pace Mullin is most at ease with these days.

Mullin does have some fighting background—he achieved a 3-0 record in three bouts within the Xtreme Fighting League, a regional combat league in Oklahoma. However, he’s been absent from the octagon for an official bout since 2007.

On the other hand, Zuck has been enhancing his fighting credentials for a couple of years. It’s reported he embraced Brazilian jiu-jitsu around 2022, receiving professional guidance from UFC champions. The tech executive secured a medal in his first competition, then was infamously challenged to a cage bout by Elon Musk. Unfortunately, that didn’t transpire because once Zuck prompted Musk to pinpoint a location and face-off, Twitter’s owner came up with a series of the most pitiful excuses posted online, including having his mother intervene on his behalf.

Though Zuckerberg tore his ACL sparring shortly after the online tiff, he’s apparently recovered and poised to re-enter the fighting scene. He’s so engrossed in his MMA phase that he even added UFChieftain Dana White to Facebook’s board.

So, why not challenge a Senator with a penchant for fighting experience to a face-off? At the very least, it signifies Zuck’s complete embrace of right-wing alignments. He’s been cozying up to Trump for months and, according to Mullin, even had a meeting with the President-elect prior to announcing the removal of Facebook’s fact-checking—a feature that Trump infamously criticized.

If Zuckerberg arrives at the subsequent Meta presentation sporting a black eye, we’ll know the outcome of his duel with Mullin, though at least he can proclaim victory on Facebook without the worry of fact-checking.
