Transforming into a venture capitalist is now the latest prestige icon in Tinseltown. 

Everyone these times, from Olivia Wilde to Emma Watson, is either inaugurating a venture firm or in the phase of financially backing the upcoming trendsetting enterprise. Robinhood, Uber, and Klarna flaunt some glamorous personalities on their investment tables, shaping the emergence of “Hollywood angels.”

For company founders, having stars on the investor list can create significant excitement for the startup — and additional points if the star is also knowledgeable. Here are some leading celebrities who are investing and their typical investment preferences. (This list will be updated from time to time). 

Snoop Dogg

The renowned musician and public figure is a frequent angel investor and is additionally the founder of Casa Verde Capital, a firm centered on cannabis investments. As per PitchBook, his investments include companies such as Cameo, Reddit, Klarna, Robinhood, and the fintech firm MoonPay, alongside other celebrities featured here. He has made a minimum of 26 investments, according to PitchBook. Casa Verde Capital’s managing partner is Karan Wadhera, and they closed a $94 million Fund II in 2020. 

Sara and Erin Foster 

As some of Hollywood’s famous duos, the Foster sisters are currently recognized as the producers of Kristen Bell’s Netflix series “Nobody Wants This”. In 2022, they inaugurated a venture firm aiming to accumulate $20 million to support consumer-centric companies; their representatives have affirmed the fund’s conclusion. Their expertise in the consumer field is profound: They’re already managing a podcast, a fashion line, and a successful TV show. 

PitchBook records indicate the firm, operating with business associate Phil Schwarz, has made at least six investments, including into companies like the nappy brand Kudos (along with Gwyneth Paltrow) and the high-end boxed wine producer Juliet. 

As angel investors, the sisters have also contributed to the alkaline water company ZenWTR. Moreover, Sara has personally invested in the swimwear brand Summersalt and the ear-piercing venture Rowan. 

Kevin Hart 

Several years back, comedian Kevin Hart initiated a venture firm, HartBeat Ventures, together with Robert Roman, an investor experienced in managing finances for stars in entertainment and sports. 

The firm was established around 2021 with a purpose to advocate for minority and underrepresented entrepreneurs. Its initial external financing came from J.P. Morgan as a segment of the bank’s efforts to sponsor more ventures helmed by women and people of color.

According to PitchBook, the firm has invested in at least 14 businesses, covering the art trading platform Masterworks, the three-dimensional printing business Ready Player Me, and Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty lingerie brand. As per LinkedIn, Tashi Nakanishi and Walid Samaha serve as partners at the firm, whereas Ron Everline is the vice president.

HartBeat Ventures commenced its Fund I in 2022, without a specific goal amount. By the beginning of 2024, it had gathered a minimum of $28 million, as per a January SEC filing. An SEC filing from October also highlights that HartBeat is attempting to secure funds for what is proposed to be an SPV focused on investing in Aston Martin’s Formula One motorsport team. 

Paris Hilton 

According to PitchBook, the iconic socialite is also an angel investor. Her investments are funneled through her company 11:11 Media, where she acts as CEO and co-founder. Some of her investments include the crypto firm MoonPay, biotech firm Colossal Biosciences, the event platform AfterParty, and the podcast platform Fireside Chats. 

Her investment themes often focus on social interfaces, biotechnology, and SaaS solutions that enhance consumer experiences. She’s known to have made at least 22 investments, according to PitchBook, and is wed to Carter Reum, the founding figure behind the esteemed Los Angeles firm M13 Ventures, which lists investments in companies like ClassPass, Canvas, and Pinterest on its portal.  

Ashton Kutcher

Nas

Le célèbre rappeur Nas a créé sa propre société QueensBridge Venture Partners en 2014. Cette entreprise a réalisé plus de 130 investissements dans divers secteurs et possède environ 140 millions de dollars en actifs sous gestion, toujours selon PitchBook. Anand Murthy y est associé. Parmi les investissements, on trouve la marque de bagages Away (avec Jay-Z) et la société de literie Parachute. 

En tant qu’investisseur providentiel, Nas a effectué plus de 50 investissements, selon PitchBook. Il a soutenu SeatGeek, Robinhood, Ring, Coinbase, et la fintech Mercury. 

Gwyneth Paltrow

La fondatrice de Goop a effectué au moins 24 investissements comme investisseur providentiel, reporté par PitchBook. Avec Moj Mahdara, elle est également la cofondatrice de Kinship Ventures, investissant dans des entreprises de consommation et de bien-être. L’année dernière, Axios a révélé que le cabinet cherchait à lever un fonds de capital-risque de 75 millions de dollars et a investi dans l’entreprise de paiement en crypto MoonPay. D’autres documents de la SEC suggèrent que Kinship Ventures a également levé une SPV pour soutenir OpenAI et l’entreprise de minage de bitcoin TeraWulf. 

En tant qu’investisseur providentiel, Paltrow a soutenu la société de couches Kudos, la société capillaire Crown Affair, le marché de la beauté en ligne Thirteen Lune, et la marque de boissons Olipop, aux côtés de l’actrice Priyanka Chopra, selon PitchBook. L’actrice Mindy Kaling, le rappeur Logic, et les Jonas Brothers ont également investi dans Olipop. 

Emma Watson

L’actrice aurait réalisé au moins deux investissements providentiels, selon PitchBook. Ses investissements incluent la société de bioproduction FabricNano et Hertility Health. Emma est une militante de renom, particulièrement engagée pour l’environnement et les droits des femmes. Il n’est donc pas surprenant que ses investissements concernaient des entreprises visant à rendre la fabrication de produits plus durable et une plateforme de santé féminine. 

Olivia Wilde

L’actrice et réalisatrice Olivia Wilde s’est associée avec Neil Sirni, l’ex-dirigeant de la division venture d’Arrive chez Roc Nation, pour fonder la société de capital-risque Proximity, selon Bloomberg en octobre. Olivia ne possède pas encore de profil PitchBook, mais Bloomberg rapporte que sa nouvelle société se concentrera sur la technologie consommateur et entreprise et a déjà réalisé quelques investissements, y compris dans Pendulum Therapeutics. 

Jason Mack, investisseur, et Santigold, artiste connue pour sa chanson “L.E.S. Artistes”, sont aussi associés chez Proximity, selon Bloomberg. Les documents de la SEC montrent que Proximity collecte deux nouveaux fonds SPV, dont un fonds santé de 5 millions de dollars et un autre fonds de 10 millions de dollars. 

Jay-Z

Le magnat de la musique est investisseur providentiel et cofondateur de RocNation ainsi que de ce qui est aujourd’hui MarcyPen Capital Partners, une entreprise résultant de la fusion de Marcy Venture Partners de Jay-Z avec le bras d’investissement de Pendulum Holding, Pendulum Opportunities. 

Roc Nation possède un volet de capital-risque appelé Arrive Opportunities Management, autrefois géré par Neil Sirni, l’investisseur collaborant désormais avec Olivia Wilde chez Proximity. Ce volet de capital-risque a investi dans au moins 40 entreprises, selon PitchBook, soutenant ainsi des sociétés comme Sweetgreen et Epic Games. 

Avant la fusion, Marcy Venture Partners a financé plusieurs entreprises, notamment Fenty x Savage de Rihanna (rendant Rihanna l’une des rares femmes noires à posséder une entreprise licorne) et la société web3 Spatial Labs. Charlie Hanna et Mason O’Hanlon sont répertoriés comme investisseurs chez MarcyPen Capital Partners sur PitchBook et LinkedIn.
