The newest Windows 10 patch, labeled version KB5048239, has been more than problematic—it’s been installing repetitively with success each time. The update, initially launched by Microsoft in November 2024 on 21H2 and 22H2, is being redistributed again this month as reported by TechRadar.

Numerous users are affected by this endless installation and it was intended as part of Microsoft’s fixes for January 2025. The purpose behind creating the patch was to resolve complications related to the WinRE (Windows Recovery Environment), but things deviated from the script. The hiccup in installation emerges because some individuals lack the required 250MB on their Windows 10 recovery segment.

Frustrations have been voiced by users on Microsoft Answers over repeated installation endeavors. Brian Lofthouse shared, “Greetings everyone. I observed my updates today and found KB5048239 pending once more! I initiated the troubleshooter and it installed again, ‘View updates’ confirmed a date switch from yesterday to today! It feels like being on a carousel. It’s giving me a headache!”

Additional grievances were voiced. Dean Wortmier highlighted on Answers.com: “This specific update was successfully installed for me in November 2024, and now it attempts installation repeatedly — each instance marked as ‘successful.’” Backing these sentiments, over 353 users with similar predicaments chimed in. Compounding the issue, Microsoft has not issued any official correspondence about an imminent fix.

No remedies seem effective, as individuals who attempted uninstalling previous update versions before installing this one continue to encounter difficulties. Even those with proper WinRE configurations and adequate partition sizes are not immune to this issue. No alternative solution appears available. With the termination of Windows 10 support forthcoming this year, this adds to the compilation of motives to migrate from Windows 10 for good.
