It seems OpenAI is presently experimenting with different concepts, aiming for one to be lucrative. On Tuesday, the firm revealed it is launching a novel attribute termed ChatGPT Tasks for its premium subscribers. This addition will empower users to configure unique and periodic alerts via the ChatGPT platform.
Tasks function precisely as it’s described: It empowers you to request ChatGPT to execute a distinct task at a forthcoming time. Task examples include crafting a weekly news roundup each Friday at noon, forecasting New York City’s weather for tomorrow at 9 a.m., or providing a reminder to renew your passport ahead of January 20. ChatGPT will further dispatch a notification containing pertinent information. To activate it, one must choose “4o with scheduled tasks” from the model selection menu, then instruct the AI regarding your desired task and timing.
This innovative addition is set to commence its beta phase rollout to Plus, Team, and Pro members over the impending days. During this testing phase, you can establish up to ten independent tasks on desktop, web, and mobile, although task manager access will solely be available online. The AI can issue reminder alerts through the macOS desktop application, your internet navigator, or the iOS and Android applications. Tasks appear to mimic existing native and third-party reminder utilities under an alternate brand facade.
OpenAI appears to be making its initial venture into AI agents with Tasks—dedicated models crafted to autonomously perform while streamlining routine activities. The sector is projected to experience significant expansion by 2025. Anthropic’s Claude previously presented its Computer Use API in November, as did Microsoft via its Copilot Actions. According to reports, Google is in the process of creating its own agent, named Project Jarvis, with recent announcements stating its automotive agent will fuel the ensuing generation of Mercedes-Benz MBUX navigation and infotainment suites.
